Green Party to host 'Culture of Community' Benefit Concert May 2nd
Lise Richard, April 15th, 2009
“A big part of being Green is community. This concert is an excellent chance to have lots of fun, learn and enjoy each others’ cultures, and strengthen our sense of community,” says Green Party Leader and New Glasgow resident Elizabeth May.
The night’s line-up of performers includes the Pictou District Honours Choir and the African-NS Youth Drum Troop, among others. Elizabeth May’s brother and noted Gaelic activist, Geoffrey May, will perform a Gaelic Poetry and Folklore recital. Also playing will be Thomas McCallum a young talents guitarist from New Glasgow, and Molly Thomason - Antigonish's grade nine musical phenom whose sweet songs will close the evening.
“Our goal was to highlight all of the varying and beautiful cultures which are present here in Central Nova,” says Green Party organizer Lise Richard. “All of the cultures of Nova Scotia, from Scottish to Mi'kmaq, are what make our province so unique and wonderful.”
The event will feature locally sourced food and beverages, including apple cider, fair trade tea or coffee and wine. “There are so many wonderful resources right here at home,” says Ms. May. “An event like this really showcases the talented people we have in Pictou County.”
Elizabeth May will serve as MC and will give a short speech of welcome.
Ticket prices are $20 each, $10 for student/unwaged or $30 for a couple. For more information, contact the New Glasgow Green Party Office, 902-695-4000.
